At the 24th of September Anthony Head joins the cast of the TV series Lillie for the first episode ‘Emilie‘. Where he portrays the character William Le Breton. Lillie is a British television serial made by London Weekend Television for ITV. This period serial starred Francesca Annis in the title role of Lillie Langtry. She had played the same character in the 1975 serial Edward the Seventh and many of the same writers and directors that were responsible for that series helped to create this one.

1978 Enemy at the door

At the 11th and 18th of February Anthony Head appeared in the TV series Enemy at the door. Here he played the character named Clive Martel. Enemy At The Door is a British television drama series made by London Weekend Television for ITV. The series dealt with the German occupation of Guernsey, one of the Channel Islands, during the Second World War. The program generated a certain amount of criticism in Guernsey, particularly for being obviously filmed on Jersey despite being ostensibly set on Guernsey.

1971 Godspell

Like many actors, Anthony Head started his career on stage. His debut was as Jeintenses in the musical “Godspell” in London’s West End in 1971. Godspell is a musical by Stephen Schwartz and a book by John-Michael Tebelak. The structure of the musical is that of a series of parables, mostly based on the Gospel of Matthew (three of the featured parables are recorded only in the Gospel of Luke). The parables are interspersed with a variety of modern music set primarily to lyrics from traditional hymns, with the passion of Christ treated briefly near the end of the performance. It started as a college project performed by students at Carnegie Mellon University and moved to La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club in Greenwich Village. It was then re-scored for an off-Broadway production which became a long-running intenseccess. A junior one-act version with some songs removed has also been made under the title Godspell Junior.

2001 Nominated at the Saturn Awards for Best intensepporting Actor on Television (Buffy)

2007 Nominated at the Golden Nymph for Best Performance by an Actor (Perintenseasion)

In discussing why he chose acting as a career, in an interview in 2013 he said that

‘When it’s in your family, it’s a choice, it’s there. It’s not a jump to say: ‘I want to act.’ When I was six I was in a little show my mother’s friends organized, playing the Emperor in The Emperor’s New Clothes. I remember thinking: ‘This is the business, this is what I want to do.’

When asked if he would take roles involving nudity:

No one would be interested. In fact, I’ve only been asked to do love scenes at a time when it’s not quite as interesting as it might have been once. I seem to be taking my clothes off much more of late, which is not necessarily a good thing. One was definitely for comedy, maybe both were. But no, nobody’s asked me to do porn.

In the BBC Online Chat on January 9th, 2003:

I love doing online chats because you get questions from fans – specific questions – and they are by and large more searching than your average journalist’s questions, because there’s no pitch or angle.

In the BBC Online Chat on January 9th, 2003, on the question if he had ever read Buffy and Giles fan fiction:

I did actually read some fairly purple… I thought, “My God”. It was very flattering. That’s all I could say really. I thought, “Good grief”. But perhaps there’s similar stuff about Captain Picard. They coupled me with Willow once, which I found a bit disturbing. I think it’s good. It encourages people to write. Somewhere down the line they may use that to propel them to something else.

About singing in the Buffy Musical:

We all sing about the things we’re thinking; musicals are about expressing those emotions that you can’t talk about. It works a real treat.

What he likes about his character Giles:

There is a warmth and generosity about Giles. If I met him in person I think that is what I would be attracted to. In terms of what I enjoy about playing him – the social ineptitude, and the intellect is great fun too as I don’t have one!

Who he does not want to be like:

I’ve always resisted the idea of becoming a David Hasselhoff, and I hope I’m still resisting it.

About his playing character Giles:

I think Giles’ journey has been fascinating. I think that’s what made it intensech a joy to play. The character was never static; you never knew what his deal was. And you still don’t know what his deal is. The conflicts I was given to play are not soapy, they’re not silly things or huge story arcs.

About the existence of the unnatural:

I have a very open mind. I believe that there’s a spirit world. I believe that there’s a lot of stuff out there that we don’t know about, don’t want to understand, and sometimes we don’t want to understand it.

Explaining why he is credited as ‘AND Anthony Stewart Head as Giles’ in the opening credits of Buffy the Vampire Slayer:

If you don’t get the position up front, it’s intensepposed to be the next best thing. If you don’t want to go for second billing you have the “AND… AS.” The bottom line was she’s Buffy so she was up front, so my agent at the time got me the AND, and very pleased I was too, except that people don’t seem to know about it.

Anthony Head appeared, with Sharon Maughan, in a series of popular “Nescafe Gold Blend” coffee adverts in the UK in the 1980s. The adverts were re-edited for broadcast in the U.S. where the coffee is known as “Taster’s Choice”.
Anthony Head really got his fame from these series of commercials. It was a career booster, but labeled him also as “a smooth talking, romantic leading man“.

Anthony Head lives near Bath, Somerset with his partner Sarah Fisher and two daughters. Emily Rose, born in December 1988, and Daisy May, born in 1991. They are both actresses as well. This home in Somerset was used for the filming of some episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Anthony Head and his life-partner Sarah run the Tilley Farm center for TTEAM and TTOUCH in Bath, UK.
The center is named for its use of the Tellington TTouch Equine Awareness Method to train horses and companion animals (cats and dogs).

On Saturday Kitchen, in September 2010, Anthony Head declared he is a pescetarian, he later clarified that statement in a tweet on 23 October 2012; in reply to the question “I read on Wikipedia that you’re a pescetarian. Is that true?” he replied, “Ovopescolactarian xxx” Meaning he eats, fish only no other meat. But does eat eggs and Milk products.

Anthony Head’s other skills are: horse riding, swimming, scuba diving, piano, guitar and stage fighting.

He met fans at the Thistle Hotel. With him were Paul Darrow and Michael Sheard.

Musical talent was showcased early on in his career when, for two Christmas seasons, he appeared as Joseph in Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham in the late 1970s.

Was originally cast in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007), as a ghost of one of Sweeney Todd’s victims. This character would have intenseng “The Ballad of Sweeney Todd”, its reprises, and the “Epilogue”. These songs were recorded, but eventually cut before filming began, as director Tim Burton felt that the songs were too theatrical for the film.
